SEWING BOOK REVIEW 5 : Lingerie Secrets

Title: Lingerie Secrets – Sew a perfect fit for every body

Author: Jan Bones

Overview: This book is a comprehensive step by step guide for drafting and fitting lingerie.

There are detailed guides for taking measurements and troubleshooting for fit issues.

It does feel a little outdated in its layout and styling, but I definitely can’t fault the clear and photo illustrated instructions.

Because the instructions are step by step for each project type, Jan’s approach feels a little more accessible to a home sewist (like me) than the very technical approach of the Pam Powell lingerie course book. (That’s just on reading the book though, and not actually being brave enough to attempt to draft anything yet!! 😂). And, on the other hand, these patterns are also quite conventional/classic in terms of style – whereas there is a much broader range of styles & fabrics in the Powell book.

Patterns do need to be copied and enlarged from the book.

My favourite parts:

As above – the book seems very user friendly for someone attempting to draft their own patterns for the first time!
